As we all know, the 11th season of League of Legends officially started on January 8, 2021. To mark the occasion, Riot released a cinematic opening for the new season on their YouTube channel. The official broadcast of the season’s launch began at 5:00 PM CET.
New Season Highlights
The first thing presented was the roadmap for the upcoming season. Of course, a new chapter in Runeterra’s story was also introduced. This cinematic focuses on the ongoing story of Lucian and Senna as they battle the Black Mist.
A new champion also made an appearance in the video — Viego.
Viego – The Ruined King
Viego was once the ruler of a long-lost kingdom. Over a thousand years ago, his desperate attempt to bring his wife back to life led to a magical catastrophe known as The Ruination. He was transformed into a wraith, tormented by his obsession with his lost love, earning him the title The Ruined King. He commands the deadly Harrowing, an event where the undead from the Shadow Isles and the Black Mist sweep through the mortal world, consuming everything in their path. Viego now roams Runeterra in search of anything that could bring his wife back. His expected release date is between January 20 and 22.
Ranked System Changes
Another major update it League of Legends is that climbing the ranked ladder will now be smoother. Riot also announced the removal of demotion protection, although promotion buffers will remain unchanged. A surprising change this year is that the race for the Challenger rank will be available immediately with the season’s launch, instead of the usual two-week delay.
