Minecraft – The Change I’ve Been Waiting For!

Updated on:

In the latest snapshot 21w14a, released on April 7, the developers introduced a change that I’ve personally been waiting for a long time. While it’s not a massive update, it’s interesting enough that I wanted to quickly describe it.

Raw Ore Drops

From this new version onward, ores like iron, gold, and copper no longer drop blocks after being mined. Instead, they drop raw ores. These function similarly to the previous blocks; they can be smelted to obtain ingots. So what’s so exciting about this change?

More Drops with Fortune Enchantment

Thanks to this change, the raw ores can now provide a bonus when mined with a pickaxe enchanted with Fortune. Previously, there was no way to gain extra resources from these ores, which was frustrating for many players.

Streamlined Inventory

The reason behind this change isn’t just about more drops. The developers explain that with the two different types of ores (one found higher in caves, and the other lower), players often ended up with multiple stacks of the same ore type in different variants, cluttering up their inventory. This update consolidates them into the same stack, making it easier to manage and keep your inventory clean.

Check out the video below from English YouTuber xisumavoid, who goes into detail about the raw ore changes as well as world generation changes, which I didn’t cover in this post. If you’re interested, I highly recommend watching it!
