According to FediDB, Fediverse reached a new milestone of user count – 15’000’000! That’s a huge amount of people. If you don’t know what it is, you can find out from this post (click here).

As we can see on the graph, on March the 3rd 2025, Federated Universe reached over 15 millions users, breaking it’s personal best. That’s being caused by about 5’500 new server being registered to FediDB. There’s still some server that are not included in those statistics, so the true user count is even higher than that. If you own a Fediverse server, consider adding it to FediDB!
We should also ignore the huge dip in the middle of the graph, as this is likely caused by a bug or maintenance of FediDB service.
Fediverse VS other platforms
While 15 millions users is a lot for the Fediverse, it cannot be compared to the mainstream platforms. Even the Meta’s Threads – which people almost don’t talk about anymore – have at this time about 400 millions users. There’s still a long way until Fedi reaches the amounts of mainstream social media platforms.
While we can’t compare this achievement with big platforms, we can still do that with smaller ones. For example with BlueSky – a copy Twitter, founded by Twitter, but still claiming it’s not Twitter. BlueSky at this moment has around 32 millions users. That means Fediverse is half way to overcome it. And we need to keep in mind that Fediverse was not built on Twitter’s money, like BlueSky.
Where it takes us?
With a growing number of users, Fediverse is becoming better alternative to mainstream platforms with every day. More and more people are deciding to migrate to it, which in my opinion is a good decision. Who knows, maybe in few years we will all be using the decentralized social media platforms?
