1. Introduction
Craft Me Chainmail Armor (CMCA) is a datapack that allows you to craft chainmail armor from chains. Something that should be added to the game when chains were introduced, but wasn’t. This small datapack has been made to fix it!
Since Minecraft 1.20.5 crafting chainmail armor with CMCA will result in getting “Sturdy” variant that is a bit better than iron armor. This change is meant to recompensate higher cost of crafting (1 chain is 1.(2) iron ingot). This means that chainmail armor crafted by the player is ranked between iron and diamond tier. Whole set of sturdy chainmail armor will give you 8 armor points on the HUD (the bar above hearts). For reference – iron set gives 7.5.
2. Compatibility
At the moment datapack is compatible with Vanilla Minecraft on versions from 1.20 to 1.21. Please note that versions of this datapack for MC 1.20.5 and above are different than older ones. Some sections of this documentation refer only to those new versions. If you want me to add support for newer game versions please inform me on the Support Discord.
3. Installation
To install this datapack please follow the standard Datapacks installation guide.
4. Recipes added by “Craft Me Chainmail Armor” (1.20.0 – 1.20.4)
CAUTION! Those recipes are out of date and are only present on CMCA made for Minecraft versions 1.20.0 – 1.20.4. If you’re playing on newer version, please refer to this section.

. Since 1.20.5 making chainmail armor results in a new variant: “Sturdy Chainmail Armor“. Those armor pieces are a little bit better than iron ones to recompensate additional iron nuggets needed to craft chains. This makes chainmail armor be ranked between iron and diamond tier.

6. Advancements

CMCA adds 2 advancements, but one of them is granted to player right after datapack installation. The other one rewards player for making a whole set of chainmail armor. You will find more details below.
6.1. Craft Me Chainmail Armor

This is the root of CMCA’s advancements tree. This advancement is granted after installing CMCA and it’s purpose is to be a “parent” of another advancement. This advancement doesn’t give any reward and doesn’t announce itself to chat or toast notification.
6.2. Cover me with chains

Parent: Craft Me Chainmail Armor
To get this advancement you have to craft the whole set of chainmail armor by using recipes added by this datapack.
After granting, it gives player 25 experience points as the reward
